In 1993 she moved to San Francisco (California) and spent three years studying independently full time manuscript production techniques, illumination, design and history of lettering with Thomas Ingmire. In London she studied calligraphy and bookbinding at the Roehampton Institute (1991-1992) with Gaynor Goffe and Ewan Clayton. Monica began the study of graphic design in Venice, Italy and England. In 1993 she moved to San Francisco (California) and in 2001 she acquired dual citizenship, Italian and American.

Stavro was born in Trieste, Italy and studied graphic design at Central Saint Martins College of Art & Design (BA) and the Royal College of Art (MA). She was elected a member of Alliance Graphique Internationale in 2010. Stavro has taught at Central Saint Martins College of Art & Design and is currently a Visiting Lecturer at the Royal College of Art. She has written articles for top international design journals and is frequently asked to speak at conferences across the globe. Her work has been widely published and exhibited and Stavro has chaired and judged numerous international design competitions. Stavro’s work has received over 150 international awards. Her work encompasses brand identities, editorial and exhibition design, wayfinding systems and packaging for clients such as Phaidon, Camper, Laurence King, The National Portrait Gallery, Reina Sofía Museum, Wallpaper* and Cahiers du Cinéma. Other projects include the identity for the Barcelona Design Museum and the menswear clothing label Jijibaba for Jasper Morrison and Jaime Hayon. While at Atlas, Stavro led the celebrated redesign of the London-based arts and culture magazine Elephant, where she was Art Director and Contributing Editor from 2013–2017. In 2013 she co-founded the brand and design consultancy Atlas with Pablo Martín. Before joining Pentagram in 2018 she directed her own studio in Barcelona for ten years. Pentagram partner Astrid Stavro is a graphic designer with an international reputation for concept driven design, distilling complex ideas into uniquely simple and emotionally engaging solutions. She has also designed Perfetto, Tutti Frutti, and Brillante pencils. With her husband, the design historian Steven Heller, she is co-author of Italian Art Deco, British Modern, Dutch Moderne, Streamline, French Modern, Deco España, German Modern, Deco Type, Design Connoisseur, Counter Culture, Typology, Stylepedia, Euro Deco, Scripts, Shadow Type, Stencil Type, and Slab Serif Type. She also co-authored and designed Italianissimo and The Cognoscenti's Guide to Florence. She is a member of the Art Directors Hall of Fame, and received the medal of lifetime achievement from the AIGA and the Type Directors Club.įili is the author of Elegantissima, Grafica della Strada, Graphique de la Rue and Grafica de les Rambles. Fili was art director of Pantheon Books for eleven years, where she designed close to 2000 book jackets. Laura’s work has been featured in several publications and exhibitions such as the Graphic Design–Now in Production in 2011-2012. She also teaches typedesign and typography in different schools. As a typographer and type designer, she is specialized in all sorts of projects involving custom lettering and type design, for branding and publishing design. Her studio works for international and domestic clients but also in self-initiated projects. Laura Meseguer is a freelance graphic and type designer from Barcelona.
